199 crescent city to grant's pass?

Has anyone taken US highway 199 from Crescent City to Grant's Pass with an Alpine recently? I was on it several years ago with a smaller rig and remember it being pretty tight.

Hi Matt and Lorraine!

We took that route in 2004. I was unfamiliar with what we were getting into and choose that time to ask Michele if she was up for driving (the Safari Trek) for awhile. One minute I was drowsing peacefully, the next moment I was white-knuckled as she was whipping it around the curves with me on the passenger side and just inches from the edge of the road and the ravine.

I told myself that the next time we were up that way, I'd be looking for a reason to take a different road!

Cheers!

I took that route a couple of years ago with my 34' Alpine. I love that kind of road. I don't remember it being as bad as CA 1 (took it in our 36 footer) or even some the the 49er highway in CA. Of course, if my wife was writing this, her opinion might differ . Just don't be in a hurry and it should be fine.

199 from Crescent City to Grants Pass is much less traumatic because the narrow sections are not against the rocky edges. Of the 80 miles total trip, only about a couple of miles is uncomfortable (about 3 sections of less than a mile each). I have lived in Grants Pass for 30 years, and never felt uncomfortable making the run. I have the 36'. Just stay on your own side and go slow - simple.

Thanks folks, That's kinda how I remembered it. We will be heading North after the Alpine NORCAL rally next month in Fortuna. We hope to see a few of you there. Matt
