The name of a part??

Greetings from this newbie! We have a 1999 KZ Sportsmen that we've had since last summer. It's our first trailer, and at 16 years old, it has some wear and tear! I'm trying to find the name of a part so I can look for it to replace it. The part is at the front of the trailer that covers the batteries and LP tanks. Some of the newer trailers have the LP tanks right on the tongue in their own case, but this trailer has the storage further back on the tongue, and then has a cover that spans the width of the trailer. You may be able to call it a rock shield, of sorts, but not sure, as that may be more referring to the parts that cover front-facing windows. I doubt KZ would sell a replacement, so it may have to be some aftermarket item. It seems like I've seen some in diamond plate aluminum, but haven't the foggiest idea of where to get started looking for something like that!
Also, our fridge doesn't work, and hasn't since we bought it (yes, perhaps you could call it a lemon ). I've done a bunch of troubleshooting, and plan to pull the fridge out, put it on it's side and/or top to redistribute the ammonia in the cooling unit, and then try again before I replace the cooling unit. However, I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on whether replacing a cooling unit will be a prudent move, vs. replacing the entire 16-year-old fridge.
And lastly, anyone know of any products on the market to repair tears in the underbelly?
Any help anyone could offer would be great. Thanks in advance for any input!

Ben

The only term that would come to me by your description would be a front propane housing. As far as the fridge, I think you may be wasting your time. Go for a new unit. At 16 years, it doesn't owe anybody anything, and will probably crap out again when you really need it.

I'll check on propane housing. And you may be right on the fridge- not ideal, but maybe necessary!

See if this is what you need:

Scrim Shield 180' Roll of Under-Belly Tape - Tapes & Seals - RV Maintenance

I'm sure if you search around you can get smaller rolls.

I agree that if turning the unit over doesn't work, just get a new fridge and then you have no worries about it, the newer ones are more efficient and actually are bigger inside for the same outside dimensions.

Call KZ. 866-472-5460 or email customerservice@kz-rv.com

web: K-Z Recreational Vehicles: Contact Us

They are still in production. I talked to a very helpful young lady who was able to get me the information I needed about the wiring.

It looks like a very custom part. I would think about trying to have it reproduced by a local fiberglass shop as a last resort.

Blue Rhino tanks are convenient but they are not filled to the true capacity of the tanks. They underfill them so they make more profit. They do disclose the real weight of the propane but most people don't realize they're getting taken. I've never tried to get one refilled but I've heard that they also take a special valve or magnet to do it.

I use 2 , 20 lb propane tanks on my boat. They are exchange tanks. I get them re-filled, no problem.

I only exchange, when they show rust. But, yes they only come with 15 lbs of gas.
